MANAWATU BEATEN BY HOROWHENUA. The junior representative match was played at Levin on Saturday to enable tho selectors to choose tho combined representative team for the curtainraiser; against Wellington juniors for thie fourth Test match. The selectors job was not an enviable one. Both teams were about of equal standing, and though Horowhenua wero lucky enough to win, a draw would have been a truer indication of comparative values. The game was a good one. Of the forwards the two packs wero abojut equal in all phases of the game. Manawatu backs threw the ball about better, but it was often noticeable that though the ball went the length of the threequarter line there was no ground gained, and sometimes lost. After the lemons greens marked from the kick off but the ball went to touch in their own half. Huff sent his men away, Goo carrying the ball to tench in the 25. Green forwards r brought the ball back to halfway w here red forwards returned to touch by the 25. From the line-out MrDonald crossed but a five.-yard scrum was ordered. Greens attacked hard and Holden went across to be held up by Croon.' A penalty to reds from a five j ard serum saw Swainson. kick to O’keefc who fumbled the ball plotting it roll to touch at halfway. Greens returned to the attack but Swainson sent the ball well up and from the ruck Fafleta ran away, passing five men to score between the posts. Swainson’s kick was a certainty. Horowhenua 13, Manawatu 8. Greens now tried to equalize but the attack was a failure, McDonald sending to Ge-c who found touch in greiem territory. Greens came again but the defence was strong and Fafleta kicking hard went to the line before being overhauled. A free kick to greens saw the ball come to Gee who found touch by the corner flag. Horowhenua were unable to go over and greens pressed slowly -back until Kells with an excellent run sent Waugh over by tho posts, O’Keefe converting. . Horowhenua 13, Manawatu 33. Greens now went to the line wthcro a penalty eaw O’Keefe miss and red's touched down. From tho kick off Hartley intercepted a pass and took the game up, McDonald completing the movement with a good kick. From a scrum in green’s 25 Croon, scored, the kick being changed. down. Horowhenua 16, Manawatu 13. No further score was added when Mr P. McLeavoy blew the whistle.
