STARTING BLOCKS FOR ATHLETES.— Nearest the camera is J. E. London, starting from blocks in a race with W. J. Simmons, who used ordinary holes. lt is considered that starting blocks enable runners to start Quicker than holes. The demonstration took place on 9th June at Stamford Bridge before a crowd of thirty thousand people present to witness an international contest between, Britain, France, and Germany,won by the home team.
