Winter Meeting Concludes in Favourable Weather

Paddon Scores Decisively Broad Acre the Sprint The Steeplechase Meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club was brought to a successful conclusion at Awapuni on Saturday in fine weather. The track was in excellent order and was faster than on Thursday. The attendance was better than on Thursday and the totalisator investments were in excess of the opening day to the extent of £llOs. The racing was of a very high standard ali through and there were several very close finishes. The Longburn Hurdle Handicap was won by Mr. L. E. B. Wallace’s gelding, Disrank, which heat the National candidate, Omeo, by half a length. The race for the Newbury Handicap was won by Mr. G. Seifert's Paddon which' scored by a short length after a great finish. Broad Acre again accounted for the sprinters, winning the Mcßae Handicap by a very narrow margin after the best finish of the meeting. £14,227 was put through the totalisator during the day, making a total of £25,692 for the meeting. The meeting was a particularly successful one and the secretary, Mr. V. T. Dibble, is to be congratulated on the efficient manner in Which it was conducted. The judicial committee was not called together during the two days, there being no enquiries.
