Dannevirke Talkies

“HARMONY AT HOME,” TO-NIGHT AND MONDAY. When “Harmony at Home," Fox Movietone all-talking picture, opens at the Do Luxe Theatre, to-day, local pic-ture-goers will see a production which the reviewers throughout the land have acclaimed one of the most entertaining domestic comedy-dramas ever brought to stage or screen. It was adapted from Harry Delf’s successful stage play and its sound screen treatment has greatly enhanced its entertaining values. Hamilton MeFadden directed and the cast is headed by William Collier, senr., and Marguerite Churchill, with Rex Bell, Charles Eaton, Dixie Lee and Charlotte Henry having tho leading supporting roles. The special short subjects are an entertainment in themselves, including two talkie news reels, comedy, also musical and vocal items. Norma Shearer Tuesday. Norma Shearer in a penetrating study of present-day social standards called “Their Own-Desire” is the particularly effective screen fare offered at the De Luxe Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday next. Miss Shearer’s new all-talking vehicle was adapted

from the novel by Sarita Fuller which tc-lls the story of a girl whose happiness came dangerously near frustration through the machinations of a father who .had grown tired of his wife, and sought diversion in other quarters. Whilo “Their Own Desire” is not exactly a phase of the “sins of the fathers” idea, it gives a clear-cut picture of tho effect of parental incompatibility on children, which in itself is something rather novel for screen use. Miss Shearer as usual gives her intelligent and faithful performance of a role that might easily have been ruined by overplayed sentimentality. Lewis Stone and Belle Bennett as the parents are splendidly cast, and other capable performances are given "by Robert Montgomery, Helene Millard, Cccile Cunningham, Mary Doran and Juno Nash. Intending patrons are advised to make early reservations at the Gramophone Radio Coy., ’phone 2595.
