Tho situation on the Yangtse is becoming graver, tho news indicating that the Communists are advancing toward the southern bank, in tho vicinity of Kiukiang, consequently imperilling Ruling, a foreign holiday resort, en route. Some 400 holiday-makers have been advised immediately to leave the town. Tho British destroyers Somme and Sirdar were hurriedly ordered from WVi-hai-wei to Nanking to relieve other gunboats destined for upriver ports. The position is teeming with tragic possibilities.
