THOUSAND A YEAR

GREAT PRICE FOR SYDNEY LEAGUER DEFEATS ALSO PAID FOR Who would not be a crack League halfback. J. Busch, crack New South Wales player, has received an official letter from the Leeds Club, England, accepting terms of engagement proposed by Busch. The contract is for £I,OOO for four years, plus a position, plus £7 for a win, £6 for a draw, or £5 for a defeat. The negotiations which led to the acceptance have been going on for some months, says'the Sydney “Guardian.” They began when Mr. Dinny Campbell, a former Rugby League star, who had played under contract to Leeds, received a cable asking him to ascertain what Busch and Weissel would be prepared to take to play in England. Weissel. who is in a comfortable position in Temora, decided not to negotiate, but Busch, through Mr. Campbell, sent along his terms. The Leeds Club unanimously accepted them, for Busch was one of the outstanding players in the Australia team that toured England last year, and is one of the greatest players Australia has ever produced. Briefly,-the terms are: The sum or £I,OOO, ‘spread over four years, a guaranteed position at the ruling rate of wages in England, and, in addition, £7 each time the club wins, £6 for a drawn game, and £5 for a defeat. Return fares to Australia. These conditions are very satisfactory from Busch’s point of view, especially considering the fact that since he returned from England he has found it difficult to get a job owing to the depression in his trade. English Agreement Ho cannot leave Australia immediately, for an agreement exists between the‘'controlling English and Australian bodies, that players are not available until two years after their return. Consequently, Busch will leave Australia not later than July next year, and he is to be ready to strip for Leeds by August 31. . Ilis loss to football in Australia will bo severe, for he is only a young man, with the best years of his football life in front of him.
