The Very First Test
It was news to me to learn that to a Sunderland man belongs the honour of introducing the Test matches between England and Australia (says an English writer). Lord Harris has told how, 50 years ago, he got together a representative English team to meet the Australians, who were in this country at the time and were being practically ignored. Lord Harris said that he got a team together at the request of Mr. C. W. Alcock, then secretary of the Surrey County Club and a native of Sunderland, who was also one of our first Association football . international players.
