GARY COOPER IN “THE VIRGINIAN” One of the most beloved characters ever delineated by the pen of an American novelist.—that of “The Virginian,” hero of Owen Wis tor’s classic novel, lias fallen to the happy lot of Gary Cooper, handsome young Paramountstar, who will be seen and heard in the part finally at the. Majestic and I lie matinee today and to-night at 8 p.m. It will be Cooper’s first alldialogue role. Critics who have previewed the'film have declared that lie gives the most impressive, characterisation of the part ever known to stage or screen. “The Virginian” is an admirable story for all-talking production. An outdoors theme with all the glamor of the open range in pioneer days, it seems to be made to order for (lie new technique of the movies-—namely recording what the eye can see and what the ear can hear. Walter Huston, famous Broadway stage star and more recently a sensation in the talking films, “Gentlemen of the Press” and “The Lady Lies,” is seen and heard in the role, of “Trampas.” the double-dealing rustler who provides the menace in the play. It is Trampas who is “oblceged” to smile when the Virginian warns him, “of you wanna calc mo that —smile.” Richard Arlon and Mary Brion are also co-featured with Cooper in the roles of Steve, t-lie wayward buddy, and Molly, the winsome “school-marm.” Also on the programme is a very fine array of supporting subjects. First is a. Paramount, 'all-talking and sound Gazette followed by a beautiful musical number and a two reel all talking comedy. Reservations can be made at Carthew’s music store.
