"THOSE WERE THE DAYS"
One of the features of Rugby football 50 years ago was the commendable element of give-and-take in the interpretation of the rules. When Wellington visited Auckland in 1830, it brought a No. 6 ball. Auckland turned up with a No. 4. It was agreed that the teams should play spell about with the different bails: the games then being four-spell fixtures. _ With the small ball, Joe Warbrick, the hefty Auckland centre, in kicking-off, put the ball over the bar fairly between the posts. The crowd roared with delight.
