Oroua Downs Sports On Wednesday

On Wednesday next the Oroua Downs Sports Club will hold its annual meeting on Mr. 0. Berg’s paddock, where arrangements have been made for accommodating a largo crowd. From a competitor’s point of view, the Oroua Downs meeting is the best along this coast, prize money and trophies this year totalling £llO. Tho Club is fortunate in holding permits from the New Zealand Racing Conference, New Zealand Trotting Association and New Zealand A.A.A. and this fact in itself is a guarantee that patrons will be provided with tho very best of fare in horse and athletic events. A provision made by the club is that all cups are to be won outright, which is much appreciated by competitors. An innovation which should prove popular this year is the inclusion in the programme of Highland events for which Mr. D. McLean has been appointed judge. Mr. H. Gillies will judge the horse events. The handieapper in connection with the athletic events will be Mr. G. Watson. A working committee of some fifty odd local members (the club boasts a membership of 140 financial members, with an expected increase this year) already have everything in readiness for Wednesday and given a fine day the fixture should prove even more successful than in past years. The day -will conclude with a dance in the hall in the evening for which first-class music has been obtained.
