The shooting season for red and sambur deer, which opened in tho Manawatu district on Saturday, was attended by fine weather in town although heavy falls of rain were experienced on the hills over the weekend. Numbers of Palmerston North sportsmen were out after heads and it is reported that sambur deer are to bo found in the Eangitilcei, Horowhenua and Manawatu counties, while red deer hc-ads are in the Tararua and Kaimanawa mountains, the Haurangi forest and one the East Coast generally.
