DUNEDIN-AUCKLAND FLIGHT IN TEN HOURS
Captain Hewett’s Record * WELLINGTON TO P.N. IN 75 MINUTES Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 15. The first non-stop flight from Dunedin to Auckland was successfully accomplished to-day by Captain J. D. Hewett, of Auckland in a do Haviland Moth aeroplane fitted with - a Gypsy engine. By doing the journey in 10 hours exactly captain Hewett established a rocord for long-distance flying in the Dominion. He took off from Dunedin at. 6.40 a.m. to-day and landed at the Auckland Aero Club’s aerodrome at Mangere at 4.40 p.m. Throughout the trip the weather was excellent with •i light head wind. The pilot passed over Wellington at noon and Palmerston North at 1.15 and continuing on along tho Main Trunk railway lino he reached Auckland at the time stated.
Captain Hewett said he enjoyed the flight immensely and was not at all tired.
The distance covered by Captain Hewett is estimated at about S3O miles. Ho carried. 65 gallons of petrol and about 50 gallons were used.
