Mrs. Erie Hargreaves, of Te Pukj, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Owen, Mangaore. Miss Parker, Puketoi, is staying with Mr£. Todd, Plimmer terrace. On Tuesday evening next the newlyformed Dramatic Society will present its first programme, consisting of light diama and humorous items. Croquet. 'On Tuesday Mesdames Nicholson and Hall, of the Levin Croquet Clul’f challenged the holders of the “Brighton Mallets.’' The members of the Shannon Croquet Club arranged to give the visitors lunch on arrival and then play. On the arrival of the train, the challengers intimated their indention of playing the match at once, which they proceed to win by 26 points to 9 and then returned to Levin as train timetables apparently did not permit of further social amenities. The vanquished intend to attempt to regain possession at an early date.

Fir© Brigade. ‘ Mr. W. Guy was elected deputysuperintendent and Mr. H. Curran was appointed secretary to succeed Mr. H. Hook, who has been appointed superintendent of the brigade, at a meeting of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade oh Monday evening., School Sports. Besides the usual flat races there will be cycling, jumping, relay, obstacle events as well as others more amusing, such as bun-eating, potato relay races, land boat race, thread-needle, and others of an amusing turn,. The trustees of the Herbert Smith fund have donated £lO 10s worth of silver cups to be competed for.and-no doubt these will be keenly contested events during the day.
