annual meeting and GIFT AFTERNOON.

The annual meeting of the League ol’ Mothors took place yesterday in StAndrew’s Sunday school room, Palmerston North.

Members took gifts of toys, to be distributed by the district nurse, Sister Farr.

An amusing time was spent, each mdtnber having to guess the identity of the subjects of old photographs, which were placed round the walls and numbered. It was agreed unanimously that the modern dress of the present day woman was possibly a trifle brief but was decidedly more becoming than those that were gazed upoii yesterday. Miss Jacobi was the clever lady who won the competition .and was presented with a brass bowl. Hostesses were Mosdamcs Heiiderson, Moore, Duffell, Mouat and Gatley.

The election of officers for the coming year resulted in Mrs. G. G. Hancox being re-elected as president, Miss McLageu was made an hon. life vicepresident, Mesdames Gray and Henderson vice-presidents; secretary, Mrs. I). Millar; treasurer, Mrs. Walker (reelected); Mesdames Wylie, Sloman, J. Black, Bary, Campbell, Taylor, Gray, Millar, committee.

Votes of thanks were accorded the hon. auditor, Mr. Goddard, and the re : tiring officers,. Mcsdaipea (secretary), and Curry. V The year’s work is shown by the following report:— Only seven meetings had been held, as the date of the annual meeting had been altered, making a short year. Each meeting was very well attended the average being 70, and the League much appreciated the spirit of'goodwill and harmony that had prevailed. Membership had now reached 110, and it was good to know that the League was growing and it wants to keep on growing until all the, mothers! in Palmerston North were interested; find joined. To Misses Street; ,&impkin, James and Crawford special, thanks wore due for their very- interesting and instructive addresses, to those who had rendered iteins, also to the Deacons ’ Court of Bt. Andrew’s for the free use of the memorial hall for meetings. During the year four guineas Were donated to families in distress. The housecraft afternoon proved s huge auftcess and the funds benefited to the' extent of : £2; lls ■ 6d.' . At the October meeting, members 1 were very pleased to have had with them membors of the Marton andlocal Mothers’ Union J On the recommendation of Lady Alice Fergpsson, some of the New Zealand branches were linking up with Scottish branches. Palmerston North had linked up with Edinburgh. It Was with great sorrow that the Loague reported the intending departure of her Excellency, Lady Alice Fergusson, Lady Alice was the founder of the League in New Zealand and was the first Dominion president. On October 30, the members of the League in the Wellington province gave * her Excellency a farewell social in the Town hall, Wellington. Seventeen of the members attended and were greatly inspired, as all present were, with the addresses given. Mrs. Elliott was welcomed as the new Dominion president. Twentyfour magazines were taken each month. These papers were ' very interesting and cost the very small sum of lfd each. ...
