MANAWATU KENNEL CLUB HOLDS SUCCESSFUI SHOW

Judging Almost Completed

Special Awards end Classes To Be Dealt With To-day

For many years past, a growing adjunct to the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association’s spring show has been the dog show conducted by the Manawatu Kennel Club. This year, the club’s exhibition is one of the most successful in its history. Entries were well above last year's figure and verge closely upon a record, with a total of 700 in all classes. All day yesterday the judges were busy making their awards hut found their work so extensive that they will he obliged to continue to-day, when the judging in the special classes will be completed.

Dog fanciers state that, this year, the quality of the animals on show is of an exceptionally high standard, particularly in the smooth-haired terriers class.

The organisation of the show reflects credit upon the officials of the Kennel Club, who had entire charge. In many respects visitors state, the show compares favourably with any other hold in New Zealand.

The judges wore Mr D. T. Sinclair, of Dannevirke, who judged the toys, terriers, collies and bull dogs and Mr J. Solar, of Kai Iwi, who dealt with the remaining breeds.

Mr. Sinclair will deliver his comment this morning but Mr. Soler made his comment available yesterday.

High Praise

"Taking them right through, the dogs make one of the best collections of high quality exhibits I have seen in New Zealand,” said Mr. Soler in commenting upon his section. "Among the cocker spaniels brought forward were some remarkably good specimens, fit to face the keenest competition in the world. I made Mr. H. Kinder’s (Remuera) black dog Woodcraft Jock, the best of this colour, with Mrs. P. S. Lacey’s bitch, Bell Bowdler, next. After 25 years’ experience, I am convinced that the open class for coloured cocker dogs is the strongest I have ever judged. Mr. G. Taylor's Renaultrae Vagabond was placed first in this class over Miss P. McColl’s Malvern Jester, while Mrs. Lacey won the bitch class with a good one in Lady Bowdler. "Whippets were a strong.class, with Sutherland • and Weir’s Prince Rupert and Mr. G. S. Remington’s Lady Jane outstanding. The latter was the best dog of the breed in the show. Alsatians were big classes, but quality was missing in most exhibits. "English setters were good, with Mr. T. W. Munro’s Holme Mark winning the principal awards. ‘ * Greyhounds were satisfactory, with some promising youngsters in the minors’ classes.” Results were: — GREYHOUNDS. (Judge: Mr Soler.) Dogs.
