Dishonest Chinese Is Sent to Prison
“DEVOID OF HONESTY.’’ Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. “You have disclosed yourself to be devoid of honesty and to bo a fraud no honest community could continue to tolerate,’’ said Mr. Justice Kennedy when sentencing Kum Yoon Lee, also known as William Chan or Tong Sun Lee, on seven charges of dishonesty and six of breaches of the Bankruptcy Act, to 18 months’ imprisonment and six months’ reformative detention. Accused admitted previous convictions in the North Island.
Francis Joseph Gantley, aged 27 married, with one child, for carnal knowledge of a girl aged 35, was sen fenced to 18 months’ reformative de tention.
Tho judge said the offence took place on the first occasion accused met the girl, who had given birth to a child, no doubt as the result of accused’s act.
