WIDER DEFINITION OF MAORI RUGBY FLAYER

Quarter-castes Included

MOASCAR CUP FOR NAVY COMPETITION

UNIVERSITY TOURS FINANCE.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A meeting of the management committee of tho N.Z. Rugby Union was held to-night, Mr S. S. Dean presiding.

Mr T. A. Fletcher moved that tho recent ruling of the union, fixing the definition of a Maori Rugby player as not moro than a half caste, be rescinded. He pointed out that if the definition were extended to embrace quartercastes, it would help Maori football materially. The Maori Advisory Board was of opinion that if the limit of a half-caste were adhered to, it wouid mean that the South Island would havo to drop out of the Princo of Wales cup competition. The motion was carried.

The lion. Secretary of the N.Z. University Rugby Football Council submitted a statement of accounts in connection with the recent tour of the Australian universities football team to New Zealand, which revealed a. credit balance of £OO2 6s.

“I have been directed by my council, ’ ’ wroto Mr. Hislop, ‘ 1 to explain that the balanco of £902 Gs is not really profit but that this sum is to be used to finance tho next tour of the New Zealand University team to Australia. In addition, the council wishes to place a small sum in reserve for the next tour of the Australians to New Zealand.”

It was decided to ask the authorities controlling tho Moascar Cup for permission to offer the trophy to the New Zealand Division of tho Royal Navy for annual competition.

Arising out of an appeal by an Auckland team in a fourth grade match, it was decided to instruct referees that in all cases in which tho dead ball line is not defined, there should be an understanding before matches commenced.
