Where is Mr Brophy?

EX-MANAGER TOR BYRD EXPEDITION. CLOTHES POUND IN BATHS. "Clothes containing cablegrams from Commander Richard E. Byrd and business cards bearing tfcc name of Richard Galo Brophy, formerly second in command to tho Byrd Expedition, were found in a locker room at the Washington baths at Coney Island to-day,” says a telegram from New York which appeared in the Springfield Republican on August 27.

Mr. Brophy was shore manager in the Dominion for the Byrd Antarctic Expedition during the early stages of the expedition, until he resigned with tho intentioa of going into private business.

The telegram continues: "The police learned that Brophy had been living at the Hotel Belvedere, but had been

missing for two weeks. His wife and child were said to bo visiting friends at Toronto,

"One of the cablegrams, signed by Commander Byrd and dated April 2, read as follows: —‘Much obliged for your message. Remember that no matter what hard luck you may have had we can worls things out if you will continue to have faith in me. Best of good wishes.’ Tho second message, dated April 22, read: ‘Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Cheerio, old fellow.' ” Mr. Brophy was active at Commander Byrd’s headquarters here during the months of preparation, for the Antarctic expedition. Shortly before the party sailed last year Commander Byrd named him second in command, a post previously held by Floyd Bennett, wht went to the North Pole with Byrd and who died while going to the aid of tho Bremen Atlantic flyers, who were stranded on Grec-ly Island. Some months ago, Mr. Brophy roturned from tho Antarctic, saying that he was going into private business.
