The date at •which General E. J. Higgins, of the Salvation Army, will arrive in Now Zealand is fixed for February 24. Mr. A. Dempsey, representing First National and Warner Brothers' Vitaphone pictures, is at present in Palmerston North, and is an interested spectator of the initial screenings of the talkies in the Palace theatre, his firm having supplied the programmes. The Rt. Rev. Professor Wm, Hewitson, 8.A., Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday. During his stay in this town he will bo the guest of Mr and Mrs John Murray at tho Rectory. The death has occurred in Nelson of Mrs Charles Fraser, at the age of 95 years. Deceased was a retired police officer with a long and honourable record of service both in New Zealand and in Australia. He retired from the New Zealand force on a pension 35 years ago. Captain W. A. Wildman, senior, has retired from the Anchor Shipping Company's service after 53 years' service, having commanded all the company's vessels at one time or another. Since 1916, Captain Wildman has beon continuously on the Nelson-Wellington run. Mr. Leslie H. Reynolds is in Nelson preparing a report for tho Nelson Harbour Board on further improvements to the harbour.
