PREPARATIONS MADE TO INTENSIFY STRUGGLE. SYDNEY, June 2G. Hopes lor a settlement of the timber striko in Sydney on the lines of the agreement in Melbourne have been ■shattered by the leaders of the strikers, who have issued a statement deI daring that the strike will be continued for six, or even twelve, months until the men have secured a forty-four hour week and the conditions of the I Webb Award. Preparations, it is stated, aro being made to intensify the struggle. WHOLESALE DISMISSALS OF WORKERS. SIGNS OF DEPRESSION. SYDNEY, June 26. Three hundred and forty men and boys employed at the Commonwealth Small Arms Factory at Lithgow yester'day received notices of dismissal, due, 'it is stated, to a reduction in the factory’s appropriation for the ensuing year. A hundred and fifty tramwaymen were served with dismissal notices following a readjustment of rosters and a reduction in traffic.
