TWO BIG PROGRAMMES AT TIVOLI

For many years motion picture producers were anxious to picturize Hawthorne's tremendous drama, but many obstacles were first to bo Temoved. It was tho production executives ot Metro Goldwvn Mayer who removed them who selected Lilian Gish, unforgettable star of the "While Sister” as tho one artist who could satisfactorily portray tho role of the heroine, Hester Prynne, and who decided that Victor Scastrom, master of dramatic direction should handle tho production. Neither time nor money was spared in making tho production “Tho Scarlet Letter” a worthy successor to tho "White Sister,” and now it is problematical whether Miss Gish’s latest triumph does not overshadow all her previous successes. Tho second feature is a most interesting and exciting underworld picture in which tho prominent characters are art thieves. There arc many exciting and thrilling episodes. The feature players arc Bill Cody and Duane Thompson. A matinee will be held to-morrow at 2.30 p.m.
