Mr. L. Ashcroft Edwards, of Wellington, speaks on ‘‘Confidence in Business” at the Lunch club to-day. Mr. Ct. G. Priest is his chairman. Many club members remember Mr. Edwards' former address to the club ‘‘Buy English, lest we Perish.” A native witness under examination in the Napier Police court provoked quite a deal of amusement by some of his replies. Asked how many people were present on a certain occasion relative to the case which was proceeding, he promptly replied, ‘‘Us.” ‘‘But whom do you mean by ‘us'?” asked the questioner. ‘‘Just me and myself,” replied the native, his earnest mien when making this statement being indicative of the fact that he was not attempting to be jocular. Needless to say, his remark was the signal for a roar of laughter from the back of the court, which almost drownfld the usher’s stern: ‘‘Silence!”

As suggested at, the last meeting, the Chamber of Commerce will place before the Chief Postmaster the proposal to open a telegram receiving depot in Itangitikci street. To relieve the congestion at the chief office and to give better facilities, it has been decided to ask for the opening of a branch office there, to transact money order, savings bank, postal and telegraph business. On tho 13th iust. in the Supreme Court in Chambers at Wellington on tho application of tho solicitor to the Public Trust Office, His Honour, Mr. Justice MacGregor, granted probate of the will of Eobert Mcllwaine, lato of Taihape, retired farmer, to the Public Trustee (the executor named in the will). On the 23rd inst., His Honour, Mr. Justice Blair, made an order appointing tho Public Trustee administrator of the estate of tho lato Miss Isabella Stubbs, of Kairanga.
