ELLERSLIE NOTES.

' Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 24. Conditions were perfe’et for training operations at Ellerslie yesterday morning, and some interesting schooling work was accomplished. The jumpers were well catered for, as hurdles were erected on the outside of the course proper and the steeplechase course was also open.

Mister Camp was sent over four hurdles and gave a very satisfactory display, although he got in rather close to the last two and rapped both. He afterwards worked strongly on the grass, and infused great dash into his tusk. His condition is excellent, and he should be one of the fittest horses in the field for the Great Northern Hurdles.

Many others were schooled over hurdles, and the best of these were Overhaul and Harbour View. Overhaul went alone and though ho did not take one fence too well, appears to have the knack of clearing his fences safely. Undoubtedly the best exhibition of the morning was given by Zircon and i Clockwork in leading Potoanui and Kauri Park in a fine gallop over a round of the steeplechase fences. Kilburn went with these horses over the sodwall double and stonewall, but lie was very careful and did not shape at all well, although ho got over safely. Zircon pleased immensely by the dash he infused into his work, and his fencing was faultless. Clockwork also went well and so did Kauri Park, who promises to be a strong contender for honours in the hack steeplechase events at. the meeting. Vexatious, Son o’ Mine, Airtight, and Sea Comet were schooled over the steeplechase fences on the flat and made no mistakes. Son o’ Mine flew the fences in fine style and may be assisted by his jumping, although ho may be scarcely at his best at present. There was nothing outstanding among the gallops rocordcd on the No. 1 grass. Cornwall Handicap candidates in Hyde Park, High Pitch, and Corinax all worked well, without being out to make time, while others to work freely were Black Duke, Wclkne, Gholonc, Tlrarsby, Yalsier and Respirator.

There have been rumours to the ef- . feet that Glendowic might be taken to ! Sydney this week, but unless anything unforeseen happens in the meantime he will be on hand to attempt to win the G. N. Steeplechase for the second year in succession on Monday week. I Glendowic paid one of his occasional visits to Ellerslie this morning, and did a little easy pacing on the sand. His condition is good and his admirers have no need to worry on this score. No rider has yet been announced, "but it will bo no surprise to see a prominent'Southern horseman in the saddle.

R. Reed lias been engaged to ride Bisox in the Cornwull handicap. Bisox and another Taranaki representative in Seatown, who will be ridden by T. Green have come into a good deal ol favour lately. Other horses well fancied for the Cornwall handicap are Hyde Park and Corinax.

Mister Gamp, Red Fuchsia, and Kawmi arc strong fancies for the Great Northern Hurdles, while Wiltshire, Glendowic, Zircon, Kawiui and Red Fuchsia are popular selections for the Great Northern Steeplechase. H. Dulicu is to rido Mangani in the Great Northern Hurdles. W. J. Bowden will be on Pouri in liis engagements.
