ROOT CROP GROWING COMPETITION

IN I’BILDING DISTRICT. AWARDS AND DETAILS. The results of the root crops growing competition conducted by the Pcilding branch of the Farmers ’ Union, were released at a meeting of the branch held yesterday afternoon. For these competitions, organised to promote the production of better crops, three trophies are offered: The Sutton for mangels; the New Zealand Farmers Co-op. Distributing Company’s Cup for swedes and mangels combined, and Hoddcr and Tolley’s Cup for the most points for all crops grown on farms of 200 acres and under,

Mr. A. Kidd, of Iviwitea, wins the ■Sutton Cup, which, was previously held by Mr. AY. J. Booth, of Kimbolton road. Mr. AA\ J. Booth, of Kimbolton road, wins outright the Farmers’ Distributing Company’s Cup for the most points in the combined mangel and swede growing competition. Mr. A. J. Baxter once again wins Hodder and Tolley’s trophy. • The following arc the details of the competitions: Mangels.

Remarks: Taking the situation into consideration, it being somewhat high on the hillside, this crop is exceptionally good. Booth Bros., Cheltenham, weight per acre, 52 tons.
