MOTOR VEHICES—--24,493,124 IN U.S.A.
WASHINGTON, April 27.
Motor vehicles registered in tho United States rose to 24,493,124 last year, the Bureau of Public Roads announces, placing the increase over 1927 at 1,359,883, or 5.9 per cent. The figure, based on state registration reports, covered automobiles, taxi cabs, buses, motor trucks and road tractors, but did not include 148,169 trailers and 117,9-16 motor cycles. Owners paid the states and tho District of Columbia an aggregate of £04,526,005 in license and registration fees, permit charges, fines and other taxes and penalties, an increaso of £-J,313,775, or 7 per cent., for tho year. State highway funds profited by £4l, 776,05-1, local road funds by £12,079,821, and state and county bond funds by £6,365,182.
