A SPORTSMAN’S BAG

A GOOD story comes from the . upper reaches of the Piako River, where, prior to the opening of tho shooting season, a sportsman buiit himself a 100 at one of tho few good places near the lagoon where ducks were known to settle in numbers. On the morning of May 1, the sportsman arrived to find his 100 occupied and many birds falling to the gun of the occupant, so, later on, he paid him a visit and, producing his licence, asked to see the licence of the 100 usurper. This he was unable to do, and pleaded that he must have left it at home. When roundly abused for shooting without a licence and for appropriating the 100, he' left with tho purpose of producing his licence. Now, game improves when hung awhile, but no ducks would have been good to eat when left as long as it took that man to return, so the 100 builder returned home with a full bag—and a full cartridge belt.
