HANDS OFF THE WHEAT POOL

CHRISTCHURCH, Alay 16. “I can tell you that the Prime Minister has a pretty big job ahead of him if ho intends to intorfero with the sliding scale of duties on wheat,” said Mr. R. McPherson, the manager of the wheat pool, when addressing a meeting of farmers at Ambcrlcy. Mr. McPherson stated that those present had no doubt hoard of tho attempt being made in the North Island to induce tho Government to remove the sliding scale on wheat, which ha would point out was absolutely necessary to tho growers. The directors of the pool were very much alive to the position and had communicated with farmers’ organisations, chambers of commerce and other bodies interested in the question, seeking their assistance in the direction of keeping the scale in existence.
