“Impressions of Sydney and Melbourne’' is tho subject of Mr R. A Fuller’s address at the Lunch Club today. Mr. L. 11. Collinscm is in the chair. At the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday Archibald Cuff, of 24 Taonui street, unsuccessfully defended an action brought by a young woman who alleged him to be tho father of her child. Defendant was ordered to pay 15s per week maintenance. Court costs and witness’s expenses amounting to £1 17s as well as the confinement fee of £9 9s. In reply to a question as to the prevalence of unemployment among returned inch at present; Mr B. J. Jacobs stated at last evening’s annual meeting of tho Palmerston North branch of the R.S.A., that to dato the position was much better than he had expected. There had not been so many applications for work as during the same period of last year but the association had taken steps to meet the claims of unemployment when they arose, as they assuredly would. They had applied to the Borough council to provide suitable work but so far no leply had boon
