McCONACHY’S RECORD

Time-limit billiards. Top-of-the-table play. Clockwork potting and position.

These were some of the features which enabled Clark McConachy, the New Zealand billiards champion, to register, perhaps, the world’s fastest top-of-the-tablo break of 490, scored in 18m 5Gs. At any rate, it .establishes an Australasian time record. With lightning rapidity, he would pot the red in either end pocket, rush to the other side, push the red near the other' pocket, after connecting for the cannon, “plonk” the red in again, and

keep on repeating that method of scoring for hundreds. This fine performance was put up by Clark McConachy during his recent match in Sydney with Lindrum.

Only once during the break did he have resource to about 20 nursery cannons. McConachy was like machinery in his movements from one side of the table to the other, and his eyes sparkled when he got the proper touch and rhythm of the balls. This was not the only break of note he made in the afternoon session, as he increased his over-night break of 405 to 473, and his next visit yielded 130, followed later on with 330. In all, during the session he put together 1,203, averaged 157, and wiped off nearly 900 of his deficit.
