Rongotea
GLEN OROUA EUCHRE AND DANCE. From Our Own Correspondent, The usual fortnightly euchre and dance was held at. Glen Oroua on Friday evening, wbcu there was a very large attendance. Euchre was indulged, .in till 9.30, the prize winners being, ladies’ Mrs. Boswell Enr.); men, Mr P. Good win; consolation, Mrs. A. Trenkncr, and Mr Stevenson. Supper was then served, after 'which dancing was again indulged in, Mr AV. Boswell being M.C., while Bramwell’s orchestra was in attendance. During the evening Mr Boswell Snr. took the opportunity of presenting, on behalf of the Glen Oroua folk, Mr and Mrs. E. Boyce, who have left the district, with a handsome eiderdown quilt and tablecloth, also a present for their small son Jimmy. In his remarks, Mr Boswell said that ho felt sure everyone would Miss Mr and Mrs. Boyce very much because, they had always taken a part in everything. Mr Boyce, on behalf of his wife and son, suitably responded. Mr Poupard then asked Mr Boyce to accept, from the Rongotea Boxing Club a fountain pen, saying that he had been a very willing and enthusiastic member of the club and he would be missed greatly in that direction also.
Drainage Board,
At the monthly meeting of the Rongotea Drainage Board, there were present Commissioners Gloyn (chairman), A. Burgess, C. Watkins, A. Gust, G. H. Davison, T. AVright, AV. H. H. Foster (overseer), and the clerk, Mr C. P. AVood, The following drains have been completed: Upper Smith’s, artisian, Costall’s, Daltons, lower main, and bush. The ovejsecr brought up tho matter of improving a portion of Smith’s draun, in the property of Mr Howell, which appears to be bringing down slips from further up. It was left in the hands of Mr A. Burgess, Mr T. AVright and the overseer to inspect that portion and docide upon the v\ork. The following were the successful contractors: H. Clark, Milnes, Murnings and Sklcnars drains; T. Boswell, AVillow and north; S. Thompson, Rhuvaldt’s; T. Scott, Hall’s, and Smith’s continuation; H. Kinzctt, Clark’s and Thompson’s. r . Accounts amounting to £249 were passed for payment.
Boxing Club
The Rongotea Boxing Club held its weekly meeting ou Thursday evening when there was a good attendance. It is easily seen by the progress the club is making, that there is some exceedingly fine talent in Rongotea. Mr. Poupard, the instructor, is to be congratulated on this progress. Arrangements are being made for a tournament to be held early in June.
Personal,
The many friends of Mr Geoigc O’Leary will be sorry to hear that he is an inmate of tho Palmerston North hospital. . Miss M. Liggins is at present visiting Wellington. The euchre prizes at the Rongotea Social club on Thursday were annexed by the following:—Ladies, Mrs. H. J. Lancaster; men, Mr J. Mearns; consolation, Mrs. It. A. Buchanan and Mr D. S. McLean. Evern Simison is an inmate of the Palmerston North hospital as the result of a kick on the leg at football. The many friends of Miss D. Sexton will be sorry to learn that she sustained injuries to her shoulder blade whilst travelling in a car which came to grief at No. 4 Line on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. N. Angus, of Nc-w Plymouth, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. C. H. Jeffs, of Glen Oroua.
