DENIED BY THE MEN,
Per Press Association.
AUCKLAND, Last Night,
A rumour that thero is a possibility of a tramway strike in Auckland is authoritatively denied. It had been suggested that a strike might evolve as a protest against the pronouncement by tho chairman of the Transport Board that efficiency in the service was to be tho paramount consideration when retrenchment was under review, and that the old-established system of appointment by seniority was to be abolished, ’ished.
While mass meetings of tho tramway men will be held on Thursday next it is denied by their representatives that there is anything in tho suggestion concerning a strike. The meeting, they state, is called to discuss, among other matters, the attitude of the tramway management in regard to retrenchment, particularly as it applies to seniority. Tho Transport Board has agreed to meet the union representatives on Tuesday to discuss the new agreement to be submitted by the union.
