A NARROW ESCAPE
The driver of tho big enclosed car which went into the swamp by the Hume’s road crossing at Tokom.aru on Friday afternoon, is not likely to*forget the incident for some time. Coming down the hill towards Tokomaru at a fast rate, the car struck the cast side of the bridge, jumped the road and finished in the swamp between the road and the railway line. A tree stump acted as an efficient brake, stripping off the left front wheel and seriously damaging the chassis. Only the weight of tho car kept it on its four wheels, and the occupants must consider themselves lueky to be alive.
