The Marton course will sec the opening of winter racing on this circuit today. It is unlikely the weather conditions will be too wintry to prevent another large gathering on this popular convincing ground and certainly there is no lack of material for the making of good racing. The first event is timed to start at 11.45 a.m. and the last at 4.30 p.m. The turf is in good order, but a shower or two will not be to its detriment. OPEN HURDLES, about 1J miles. The Open Hurdles has Red Fuchsia as top of the class and even with the, steadier of 12.2, he should run well' forward as he has sound recent form to ] back him up. Koauau has returned to his former country from the South and his form is a little more difficult to i gauge. Home Made, in receipt of three pounds from the latter, is a good sort that will have a solid following. In Nucleus (10.6) the public has the opportunity of seeing a good jumper in action. The rapid improvement shown by Kilburn, which did very well at Ellerslie, should justify a large following to-day. Red Bank is not harshly treated and the distance will suit,, Kilbrook and Mandarine are a class lower than the others. The race presents an open appearance, but Red Fuchsia, Red Bank and Kilburn are a likely trio. DASH HACK, 5 furlongs. First Division.
