CHURCH SERVICES

A notable visitor to Palmerston North is Rev. John F. Goldie, President of the Conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. For 27 years Mr. Goldie has been in the Western Solomons, being the pioneer missionary in that Held. 'He is also a valued member of the Council of Advice of Iho High Commissioner of the Pacific. On Sunday morning ho will conduct the morning service at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Broadway avenue, when ho will be accompanied by Nathan Kcra, a native christion who will speak aud sing in his own longue, being interpreted by Mr. Goldie. The eveuing preacher will bo Rev. J. Ernest Parsons who will take for his subject, “The • Christian Vision.” The soioist- will be Mrs. Nicholson, who will sing, “Thy Lite was given for me” (Jude). At Milson on Sunday evening the preacher will bo Mr. 11. Spencer Ratcliffc.

CUBA STREET METHODIST CHURCH. The annual Foreign Missionary services will be held in Cuba Street Church to-morrow, the morning service being conducted by the minister, the Rev. .T. D. McArthur. At this service the Y.M.C.A. Board and Girl Citizens will parade. The president. of the conference, the Rev. J. F. Goldie, will conduct the evening service. Mr. Goldie, who is the pioneer missionary to the Solomon Islands—with 27 years’ servicewill have with him Nathan Kcra—a native convert, who will take part in the service.. Mr. Goldie will officiate at Longburn at 2.30 also. Fine'services arc assured and all who are interested in Pacific relationships should make a point of attending. Come with us and we will do you good. On Wednesday next at 7.30 the annual Foreign Missionary demonstration will be held, Sir. Goldie in charge. A cordial welcome to all. Offertories in aid of the F.M. Fund. Foreign Mission services will be held in the Feilding Methodist Church tomorrow. The Rev. F. Copeland. will preach at the morning service ancT in the evening the Rev. W. A. Sinclair, general secretary for Foreign Missions, will bo assisted by Gina, a young Solomon Islander, who will speak and sing.

ANNUAL REPORT OF ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH. The churchwardens of All Saints’ Church, Messrs O. Monrad and H. G. Bagnall, will present' the following _tc-. port to the annual meeting of parishioners on April 24: — “It is again a pleasure to report that the receipts have slightly exceeded the expenditure by a matter of £l6. This result has only been realised by' recourse to bazaar profits. Several subscribers to the sustenation fund are in arrears and we would stress the necessity for continued support to this fund which is the chief source of Tcvenuo apart from the general offertories. In this connection we wish to express our appreciation of the members of tho Girls’ Club in initiating a duplex envelope scheme to assist church finance. Wc ■ hope that this example of our young members may influence those who are not assisting us. It has been decided not to hold the bazaar this year but to ask for a golden offering. We look confidently for a generous support thereto. The country districts and Takaro have again loyally carried out their obligations. The Boys’ Club have reduced their debt by some £B3 to £402 Cs and have assisted both the general and mission fund with contrh butions. At the annual meeting of parishioners Mr. O. Monrad was renominated by the vicar as his warden, Mr. H. G. Bagnall was elected people's warden and the following as vestrymen; Messrs Ax, Abraham, Carter, Drake, Harwood, Metcalf, Owtram, Robinson, Sherman and Sutherland. The new orgau wi}l be installed by December 1, if not before, satisfactory reports having been received from the builder. The total collections for the. orgau fund are £1404, of which £2OO has been paid to the builder. During the year wo have lost many of our parishioners through death —Mr. J. H. Hankins, one of the pioneers of the Church, at one time churchwarden and lay reader; Mr. T. Lancaster, another very old resident of the district; Mr. R. Coker, who in the early days did very faithful work; Mrs Jessie Jones, who bequeathed £SO in her will for tho Church funds; Mrs Preccc, Mr. Johansen, Mr. Bradficld, Mr. Brooks, Mrs Woods,, Mrs Dalziel and Mr. Whalley.
