POLO TOURNEY CONCLUDES

Handicap Cup Contest WAIMAI B WINS TROPHY The New Zealand Polo association’s annual tourney concluded at Feilding yesterday morning, when the final of the Handicap Cup was played. The three Waikato teams were in the final but Matangi A withdrew, leaving Waimai and Matangi Bto fight it out. A good game resulted and the two goals that Waimai scored in the first two chukkas gave it the trophy. At the conclusion of the match, Mr. R. S. Abraham assisted Mrs. Abraham to present the trophy to the winning team. Cheers were given for the victors and vanquished and also for Mr. D. H. S. Riddiford, president of the association.

Matangi B (21) v. Waimai (28). The game opened vigorously, both teams getting into their stride immediately the ball was played. Excellent shooting by Shaw enabled Bryant to score the first goal and a moment later, he put on another. Encouraged by their supporters, Waimai attacked and at the end of the ehukka registered a goal through the agency of Snodgrass —23-29. In the next ehukka, Shaw was conspicuous by his powerful and clean hitting and while he missed his first shot through over cutting, he made sure of Ms next goal effort, which was nicely executed—24-29. Matangi got possession and in the melee round Waimai ; s goal, the defenders hit behind and were penalised. Shaw carried his shot through to goal—2 B-30. Waimai thereafter kept Matangi off to win by two goals.
