Two South Island Parlies TOURS OF NORTH ISLAND The Railway ■ Department's plans for running two excursion trains this winter to take South Island farmers on tour through the North Island have aroused immediate interest and widespread support in the South. So gratifying has been the response that the department feels assured that the wholo of the accommodation, which is limited to 300 on each of the two trains, will be taken up weeks before the date of starting. The scheme, which will be carried out in conjunction with provincial farmers’ unions in the South Island, is the largest undertaking of the kind that the department has organised. The first of the excursions is for Canterbury and Westland farmers, and their wives and friends. They will start on Tuesday, May 28, and cross by ferry steamer to Wellington that night. Next day they will join the special train at Wellington, and be taken to Hamilton the same evening. Hamilton Will be their headquarters for two days, during which they will visit the Waikato Winter Show, ' the Ruakura Stato farm and butter factories and other points of interest in the district. They will be officially welcomed and entertained by the Waikato Farmers’ Union and officials of the Winter Show.

Rotorua and Arapuni. On the way to Rotorua /on June 1, they will have opportunity to make a trip to Arapuni. After spending June 2 in sightseeing at Rotorua they will return on June 3 to Auckland, where two days will be spent. The Auckland branch of the Farmers’ Union will cooperate with the Railway Department in the arrangements being made for the entertainment of the visitors nere. An even more extensive tour for Otago and Southland farmers and their wives is being planned to take place a little later. The party will leave Invercargill on the morning of June 14, crossing that night to Wellington. Next day their special train will take them to Wanganui, where a whole day is to be spent. Then they will visit Hawera, and from there will go to Palmerston North for the Winter Show to be held there on June 20. They are due to reach Auckland at nine o’clock the following evening, and to leave next morning ' for Whangarei. They may even go as far North of Opua. Small Cost of Trip. On the return journey Auckland will be reached on June 24, and after a day here the visitors will leave on June 26 to spend three days at Rotorua. Wellington will be reached via Hamilton on June 29, and the Southerners are due to arrive back at their homes on July 3. The wholo excursion is being so organised that the cost of travelling .nd accommodation to each person will be only about £ls.
