ONE SWITCH GUIDES MILES OF TRAFFIC
SINGLE DEVICE KEEPS LIGHTS ON AND OPE IN 75 MILES OF NEW YORK STREETS. NEW YORK, Mar. 12. A mechanical device, now controls traffic on Manhattan Island. A cen-tral-control synchronised timing system has just been placed in service. One switch in the West Thirteenth Street
police station controls approximately 75 iriiles of street traffic lights. Speaking at the opening, of the new system, Albert Goldman, commissioner of plant and structures, predicted that within a few years radio would probably bo used to aid traffic control. The synchronised system is to be extended until it eventually controls 261 miles of street.
