Mr. J. Fergic, of the Railway Department’s publicity staff, is i visiting old friends in Palmerston North. The annual report of the Wellington district Baptist Young Men’s Bible Class Union presented to the annual meeting held in Palmerston North records with deep regret the death of two members of the Union, the late Mr .C. Charles (Wanganui), and tho late Mr. D. Guthrie (Borhampore). Mr. J. C. McCrea, an erstwhile resident of Palmerston North, is visiting tho town. Mr. McCrea is attending the chess tourney and in that connection it is interesting to noto that he was secretary of the first chess club in Palmerston North. The funeral of the late Mr. W. A. Browning took placo at the Terrace End cemetery, and there wa3 an exceptionally lengthy cortege, comprising about 75 cars. Friends were present from all parts of New Zealand to. pay tlioir last respects, and there were numerous beautiful floral tributes. A private service was conducted at the residence by Rev. J. A. Noild, who also officiated at the graveside, where Wor. Master A. Kennedy, of the Manawatu Lodge Kilwinning, read tho Masonic service. The Manchester Unity of Oddfellows and Fire Brigade Old Boys were p.lso represented. The pallbearers from the house were Messrs F. do Lucn, J. Fearnley, 11. Simmons, and three of the Old Brigade, while those to the graveside were Messrs .T. A. Nash M.P., W. Mouldcy, A. Kennedy, W. Boon,_ A. Hopwood and A. Clark, representing the Masonic Craft.
