Following his triumph in establishing a fresh land speed record in his all-British “Gol'dcn Arrow” car, Major Segravo, at Miami, Florida, yesterday won the Harmsworth International Speed Boat Trophy from the United States. Under the system of points governing the contest Segravo had only to finish tho course in the second heat to win, the United States holder, Gar Wood, in “Miss America,” having had a break-down in the first heat. In yesterday’s heat Gar Woo'd finished first, but the contest was unsatisfactory. as Segrave discovered during the race that his craft had struck sub merged wreckage so that the speed had to be reduced and the boat baled to keep it afloat. Segravo scored, 761 points and W r ood 400. In view of the damage to “Miss England,” Segrave is not making to-day his projected attempt on the water record. He is going to Washington to receive the international Trophy from tlio VicePresident of the United States, and to meet the British Ambassador, Sir Esme Howard.
