GOLF CLUB HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING

Mr W. L. Fitzherbert President MANAWATU COURSE IS GREATLY IMPROVED Mr. L. M. Abraham presided over a large attendance of members at the 34th annual meeting of the Manawatu Golf club, held last evening. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, as published, Mr. Abraham said that in doing so ho wished to congratulate the club on its progress during the year. It had started the year with what might be termed a fair New Zealand course and it was ending it with a course which would stand comparison with any other in the Dominion. The improved quality of tho course would be reflected in the play of members, particularly as they were already snowing a keenness which augured well for the coming season. His thanks were due to the committee for the enthusiasm displayed in the work it had undertaken during the year, particularly the hon. secretary and hon. treasurer, who did about 90 per cent of the toil. Tho work done by Mr. W. L. Fitzherbert and the green committee, who have the greens and fairways in better condition than they have ever been, was also acknowledged. The report and balance sheet having been adopted Mr. L. M. Abraham vacated the" chair and the meeting proceeded to the election of officers. Election of Officers. ■ President. Mr. W. L. In returning thanks for tho honour conferred upon him, the new president commented that the position was no sinecure, yet it was for him a labour of love to do anything for the club. When complimenting members on the large attendance, Mr. Fitzherbert expressed tho hope that they would enjoy fully the new course. On the motion of Mr. F. J. Nathan, a vote of thanks was passed to the late president and the retiring officials for their services during the past year. Looking back over the 32 years he had been connected with the club, ho could only say that it had been fortunate in the members who had filled the various offices. Messrs A Seifert and R .B. Lucas received tho thanks of the meeting for their untiring and unselfish labours in connection with tho course improvement scheme. Mr. L. A. Abraham spoke in glowing terms of the work done by Mrs. L. Seifert, to whom a vote of thanks was passed. • . Members were eulogistic in their references to the services rendered by Messrs Galloway. Schiari and McCrae, t,o whom letters of appreciation are to be sent. It was made a recommendation to the new committee that the middleweight championship be resuscitated, members being of tho opinion that with the new handicaps, there would be quite a number of members eligible.
