WORK ON RANGIOTU FLOODGATE

TO BE COMMENCED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. A special meeting of tho Manawatu Drainage Board was held yesterday. There were present: Trustees P. J. Small (in the chair), It. Tanner, A, Guy, M. A. Eliott. The meeting was called to pass the required resolutions in connection with tho Board's proposed loan of £SOO which is to bo used for improving the main floodgate at Rangiotu. Tho resolution passed was as follows: “That an application be made to the local Government Loans Board for its consent to tho Manawatu Drainage Board borrowing tho sum of £SOO for a term of 20 years at a rate of interest not exceeding six per cent, with a sinking fund of throe per cent., for the purpose of improving the outlet at the Rangiotu floodgate.’’ Trustee Eliott reported that tho special area would- bo over 4000 acres in extent and that the rate, with sinking fund would not exceed threepence an acre. It was resolved that tho engineer be instructed to proceed with the work at the floodgate as soon as he could obtain the required permission from the Main Highways Board and the ICairanga County Council. Messrs. Small, Eliott and Tanner were appointed a sub-com-mittee to confer with the engineer, as to methods of construction.
