COLLEGE STREET’S BID FOR NEW BUILDING. EDUCATION BOARD MEETS. Times Special. WANGANUI, Last Night. At tho meeting of tho Wanganui Education Board to-day the committea of the College Street school forwarded a resolution passed at a recent meeting of householders urging the necessity of a new school to replace the present out of date building. Mr. M. H. Oram said the Minister had promised to visit Palmerston North after Easter. Ho thought it would help matters if tho chairman went down wbilo the Minister was there. This was agreed to. £3B was granted for ventilation improvements in three class rooms at Lytton street, Feilding, and £ls was voted for similar work at Mataroa. Tho board also granted £ls for a now basketball area and forming a new drive at Longburn. Tho architect’s recommendation that tho temporary classroom at. Terrace End if not being used be dismantled and the material used for tho construction of a bicycle shed at Russell street was adopted. Mr. N. T. Lambournc, chief schools inspector for the past three years, was presented by tho chairman with a set of pipes from the members of the board and staff. He wished Mr. Lambournc all success in his new position, in Wellington and at the same time welcomed Mr. Crosbie, of Auckland, who has joined the Wanganui inspectorate and congratulated Mr J. Crawford on his promotion to be chief inspector for the district. - A suggestion from the Foxton committee that pupils of nearby . schools be brought to Foxton for cooking and dressmaking instruction was held over for further consideration. The architect’s report states that the new building and outbuildings at Russell street have been, completed and are ready for occupation. The school at Milson’3 line has been repainted and the painters are also busy at Hokowhitu. The following resignations were accepted! R. G. Hutton, head teacher at Ashhurst; L. J. Thomas, sole , teacher at Awahou South; H. F. Gabites, assistant at Central, Palmerston North; A< M. T. Williams, assistant at Fox-

ton, H. Hunter, assistant at Greatford. It was reported that Messrs F. W. Coombs and F. T. Vasey had been appointed commissioners at Russell street pending the meeting of householders next month.
