A. AND P. AFFAIRS

general committee meets. The general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association met yesterday: Mr. J. Linklatcr, M.P., presiding. ( The Palmerston North Garrison Band wrote returning thanks for the free use of showgrounds for the Sunday concert on February 24. The secretary of the New Zealand Aberdeen Angus Cattle Breeders’ As soeiaticn wrote suggesting that the description of cattle classes in the Association’s catalogue should be made the same as at other shows i.e. instead of describing a class as: Bull 3 years and over, to make it read: Bull calved prior to July 1, 1925, and so on. Mr. D. Buchanan thought the request was quite right. The Manawatu Association’s own schedule was always worded as suggested but there had been a mix up with the introduction of the Royal classes last year. The matter was referred to the schedule committee. Butter Exhibits. Further was heard of the protest voiced by the committee of last meeting concerning the decision of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company (Waikato), not to exhibit butter at shows outside their own territory. The manager stated that the matter was very fully considered by the company directors before arriving at the decision and nothing had happened in the interval to cause them to alter that decision. The fact of the committee publishing a resolution passed by them depreciating the decision of his directors on the matter concerning their own business was not likely to tend towards the Manawatu Association gaining support from dairy companys generally. “The answer to that is that wo have bigger entries this year than ever,’’ remarked Mr. M. A. Eliott. “A very good answer too,” observed the chairman. On the motion of Mr. Johnston, the letter was received. Ayrshire Protest. A deputation from the New Zealand Ayrshire Breeders’ Council waiten on the meeting protesting against the exclusion of the Ayrshire breed from the Johnny Walker cup competition. The deputation consisted of Messrs. R. H. Spencer, T. Webb and J. Aitchison who considered it a reflection on the breed in being left out. Mr. D. Buchanan stated that he had secured, the trophy for the Association and it had been left to him to allot the trophy as. he thought lit. It had been thrown up at him more than once that when he had secured a trophy for the Ayrshire breed it was because he expected to win it himself. Ho had determined that that would not be said again so he had left the Ayrshircs out of the Walker cup competition. Members thought Mr. Buchanan should not have taken any notice of what he had heard and a motion to include the Ayrshire breed in future competitions was carried. Mr. Buchanan: You can’t alter the

conditions without my consent no matter what you decide.
