P.D.C. New Building Facts and Figures about the wonderful Steel Construction Announcement No. % For the last week, a familiar sight from The Square k a tall, massive red derrick, 57 feet high, on the site of the New P.D.C. Building. Occasionally swinging precariously from the top are seen huge steel staunchions and beams which form the frame work of the first AllSteel Construction Building in Palmerston North. ~; . j Six huge staunchions, each 48 feet high, weighing over 3 tons and worth £BS each, are already in position. Connecting the staunchioiis at intervals of 17, 15 and 13 feet, respectively, are massive beams 2 tons in weight costing about £6O each, which form the foundation for the floor joists. Erected are about 45 tons of steel valued at over £IOOO, while a further 55 tons await erection to complete the first portion of the frame work.
