SCHOOL PICNIC. From Our Own Correspondent The annual picnic of the Eongotea School was hol’d at the spacious school grounds on Saturday, when there was a very large attendance of parents and children. FARMEES’ UNION.

The annual meeting of the Eongotea branch of the New Zealand Farmers Union was held on Friday evening, when there were -present: Alessrs A. G. Dear (Chairman), H. V. Caverhill (secretary), J. Gloyn senr., W, C. Gloyn, E. Craig. There was no balance sheet presented, but the pass book showed that the branch had a very satisfactory credit balance. Mr Boy Craig was onrollod as a member of the branch. The election of officers resulted in a strong committee being formed, while the principal officers wore: president, A. G. Dear; secretary, H. V. Caverhill, provincial delegate, E. Craig; Messrs A. G. Dear, H. Y. Caverhill and W. C. Gloyn wero appointed to operate on the banking account. Whon the Eongotea branch was formed, the membership was CO; at present the number of financial members is 40. Mr Craig suggested that a social be held to try and infuse interest in the branch and it was decided that a committee meeting be held in the last week of AfaTch in order to make arrangements fop a social to take place in April. It is the intention of the branch to hold a series of socials, and officers from the Department of Agriculture are to be asked to address the farmers.

Owing to« the small attendance .very little business was transacted.

SOCIAL CLUB. The Eongotoa Social Club held its usual weekly meeting on Thursday evening w T hen there was a fair attendance. The games wore very keenly contested, and at the conclusion Miss I. Baylis w r as announced the winner of tho ladies’ prize (donated by Mr. Ciochetto) and Mr. W. J. Amies was the winner of tho gents’ (donated by Mr. T. Fraser). Supper was then served after which various. card games were indulged in till midnight.
