An outbreak of fire in the shell fuse factory of the Sofia arsenal _ spread with terrific rapidity, causing 28 deaths. A number of those rescued succumbed. Twelve firemen who were taken from tho collapsed portion, of the building are in a critical condition. The explosion was duo to a workman drying damp powder before an open fire. The explosion ignited the stocks of saltpeter and sulphur and a wooden door burst into flames, barring the exit. This necessitated the iron bars of the windows being broken before Tescue work Was possible. Eighteen women are among the dead.
