In recent years motor cycle design has almost without exception been on conventional lines. Machines have had their individual characteristics, but that has been all, end the whole tendency has been one of steady development rather than of startling change (states the Motor Cycle). Motor cyclists, in this country at au events, are inclined to bo conservative in their outlook. They have preferred a well-tried design of the type to which they were used, to something unconventional. The attitude has had the natural effect-of making manufacturers charv of departing from the orthodox, even if by such a breakaway a greatly superior machine might result. Also those who have produced unorthodox motor cycles have seldom met with succannot be blamed. If anyone is at fault it is the user, whose demand the manufacturer must necessarily meet. Of late there have been signs of a change in motor cydist s views. Those who are keenly interest S' Tn designs have clamoured for more rapid development, and and again wo have published articles and letters pointing out directions m which the motor cycle needed improvement. .Al- - these efforts are bearing fruit, the Olympia Show there were a number of novel designs on view. This change in manufacturers ou - look is to the good, and nugurs weH for the future of motor cycling and of troduced merely for the sake of change. The unorthodox features have in each case been incorporatcd wiUl he obiect of improving performance, smooth running, silence, ease of cleasteering, and weather protection. Whatever has been said of manufacturers’ policy in the past, no one can aver to day that design is stagnant.
