MUDGUARD DESIGN
THE LATEST FASHION. Thero is one very noticeable point in the design of 1929 coachwork -which deserves special mention, the wide and well-domed mudguards, swept well back, in tho caso of tho front ones, from the wheels. The main object of the designers of these guards is to secure a dashing and artistic appearance, but they have also attained another most important effect. These wide guards are much more efficient in stopping mud from tho rotating wheels, and there is littlo doubt that they do keep a oar body much cleaner than the older, narrower kind. Almost every feature of the latest types of motor-car bodies not only serves to enhance their general appearance, but also has a very practical use. On the whole, it will bo _ found that symmetrical lines and interior decoration of the most artistic kind have been secured without detracting from the practicability of tho car as a carrier of passengers. In fact, as far as its bodywork is concerned, the 1929 model is, first of all, much easier to keep clean and, secondly, is a far more luxurious means of conveyance than its predecessors. Constant improvement is desirable m spite of the fact that a mew model immediately reduces the value of its immeliate predecessor by some £SO or so in the second-hand market, and those motorists who decry the almost yearly custom of manufacturers of producing new,types should never forget that the comfort and convenience which they enjoy could not have been made available to them in any other way.
