“HIGHLY INOPPORTUNE,” SAYS FINANCIAL NEWS
SOVIET ASSISTED.
Sun Cable. Received Tuesday, 2 a.m. LONDON, March 4.
The Soviet and Anglo-American oil agreement is beginning to mystify the city. A leader in the Financial Times declares definite particulars should immediately be disclosed, to enable the public to judge of the real significance of the statement issued by the Dutch Shell group, that the agreement has not provided for the sale of Russian petrol or crude oil by any of its companies and that the price of other products has been fixed under the world market price, in order to provide a margin to compensate owners for appropriated properties. This conflicts with the interpretation from Moscow. The statement does not disclose tho extent of the margin or how it is being allocated. The Shell group’s further assertion that Russian petrol is not sharing on tfie British market equally with other companies is irreconcilable with what was previously understood. According to the Financial News, the city regards the agreement as highly inopportune and that morally and financially it assists the Soviet, thereby weakening the inducement to settle its liabilities.
