Well-Known Swimmer’s Left Thigh Fractured
ACCIDENT TO MR. W. HIRINI. Five Maoris in a converted lorry car driven by Mr. C. McDonald, of Levin, wero thrown from the vehicle on the Foxton beach road, about a mile beyond the seaport, at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The cause of the trouble was tho breaking of tho rear axle. Tho vehicle left the read and dropped over a small bank, all the occupants being thrown clear.
The car, however, turned over three times and on the last somersault, struck ‘Mr. W. Hirini, aged 18 years, of Foxton and a well-known swimmer, and his left thigh fractured. He was the only one who required the services of Dr. Wylie of Foxton and he was later conveyed by ambulance to the Palmerston North hospital, where he arrived at 5 o’clock.
